Info for Pregnant Teens

There are several things that a pregnant teen and her doctor can decide to do to lower the chances of a mom passing an STI to her baby either in the womb or during birth. It’s a good idea for a pregnant teen to talk to her doctor about her current status and any history of sexually transmitted infections. Adoctor will provide a mom with options so she can decide what is best for her and her baby’s health. Each individual case is different, but some safety measures a doctor may recommend are prescribing medication during pregnancy, giving the baby certain treatments after birth, or recommending a cesarean section. It is also possible that a doctor will not recommend anything because the risk of passing the STI onto the baby is very low. It is also very important that teens continue to use condoms while they are pregnant.
